UIC 2014 - Call for Workshop Proposals

Ubiquitous sensors, connected devices, networking advances and diverse data sets
are the driving force towards a smart world, in which computational intelligence
is embedded in the physical environment to provide trustworthy and relevant
services to people. This ubiquitous intelligence (UI) changes the computing
landscape by enabling new breeds of applications and systems previously
impossible. For example, by coupling everyday objects with intelligence, many
tasks can now be simplified and automated. As a result, our living and working
spaces become safer, more comfortable, and more efficient.

UIC-2014 workshops focus on new challenges and emerging issues on all aspects of
an end-to-end UI ecosystem. Please refer to the conference CFP for more details.
This is a unique opportunity for researchers and industry practitioners to share
original research results and practical development experiences.

The organizers of the workshop are responsible of forming program committee,
advertising call for papers, reviewing submissions and planning the final
program. UIC-2014 Workshop Co-chairs will assist in ensuring the quality and the
success of the workshops. The registration fee for workshops will be determined
by the conference (not the workshop itself). The fees will be paid to the
conference, and the conference will provide workshop facilities including the
working notes printing, the meeting room, coffee break, lunch, proceedings, etc.

The proceedings of the UIC-2014 workshops will be published by IEEE-CS
Conference Publishing Services (indexed by EI).

Prospective workshop organizers should prepare a proposal containing the
following information:

1. Title of the workshop : both full name and abbreviation
2. Objectives, scope, and contributions to the main conference (up to 1 page)
3. Short bio of the key organizers and their experience on conference/workshop
organization
4. Procedure for selecting papers, plans for dissemination (e.g., how to
advertise and special issues of journals), and the expected number of
participants
5. A tentative list of program committee members
6. The (tentative) website/URL of your workshop
7. If this workshop has been held before, please also briefly describe its
history (e.g., number of submissions and accepted papers, attendance, etc.)

Approved workshops should strictly follow the important dates, particularly the
paper status notification and camera-ready dates (announced later). The paper
submission deadline could be later than that of the main conference. However,
there should be sufficient time, say 5-7 weeks, for generating peer reviews.
Generally, paper submissions are at most 6 pages, and they should receive at
least 3 peer reviews.

Please email your stimulating workshop proposals in PDF format by June 1, 2014
to the workshop co-chairs: Chieh-Jan Mike Liang (liang.mike (at) microsoft.com)
and Yuqing Sun (sun_yuqing (at) sdu.edu.cn). Please use UIC-2014 workshop
proposal as the email subject. Proposal notifications will be sent out by June
15, 2014.
